Mohammed el Ganoubi
Mohammed el Ganoubi is an amazing artist who tried to breach the stereotype between northern and southern Egypt that existed way back before its independence.
Ganoubi spent most of his childhood in Egypt (Aswan). He graduated in 1988 from the college 0f fine art in Minya. His early works were made of spices – spices into paints. Ganoubi likes to work with a smell as it is the sense field most closely to memory. He believes that this type of works evokes personal memory, the memory of emigrants, of old people and of a society.
He reflects his unusually reflective stance which in turn informs his art. He is an anthropologist’s delight. He has an incredible breadth of literary, philosophical and theoretical knowledge gained in Arabic which far surpasses that of most visual artists in Egypt. He is also a writer and an author. Ganoubi has participated In several solo and group exhibitions.
